U.S. Treasury Secretary Yellen Says Some Russian Sanctions Could Remain In Place Even After The End Of The Ukraine War

Wall Street Journal: Some Russia Sanctions Could Extend Beyond Ukraine War’s End, Janet Yellen Says

Treasury secretary says Moscow hasn’t yet shown a willingness to negotiate but she could foresee leaving some measures in place after hostilities cease ‘given what’s happened’ NUSA DUA, Indonesia—U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said some sanctions on Russia could remain in place even after any eventual peace agreement with Ukraine, raising the prospect of a long-term U.S. effort to squeeze Russia’s economy.

As Ukraine makes advances on the battlefield, Western leaders have started to contemplate how and if an end to the war may be negotiated with Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently said he was open to “genuine peace talks” with Russia, and U.S. officials have said that any settlement would be up to Ukrainians.

Update: Some Sanctions Will Stay On Russia Even After War In Ukraine: Yellen (Zero Hedge)

WNU Editor: Cannot say that I am surprised by these remarks from Janet Yellen. The destruction of the Nord Stream pipelines was a clear signal to me that there are some in the West determined to make sure that trade and economic development between Europe - Russia never comes back. U.S. Treasury Secretary Yellen just confirmed it.

Poor WNU.

As much as I am disgusted by Yellin, I am not going to knee jerk and think everything that comes out of her pie hole is wrong.

This announcement does not bother me.

Why? Because the attack on Ukraine was not a one off.

Substations across Ukraine were hit again today. The sanctions on washing machines and toasters are not very effective

S-300 missiles used in a land attack mode don't need a lot of chips like the higher end stuff. A substation is not that hard to hit.

I cannot believe the Ukrainians are crossing the Dnipro River immediately. If they are sending troops, then you know artillery is involved. The Russians in Kherson oblast will starve to death unless they leave. Count on it.

S-300 can hit ground targets well beyond its range and over the horizon, very impressive system indeed

genuine peace talks. What a joke. That guy is a blood sucking vampire who will bleed that nation to death. Then flee the country while pointing fingers at everyone else.

Electrical sub stations have/are

- max speed of 0 km/h
- accelerate form 0 to 60 mph in ∞ seconds
- max acceleration is 0m/(seconds squared)
- bigger than the broad side of a barn

Any missile with a decent inertial guidance system or GPS's capable should be able to hit a sub station.

Decent inertial guidance system or GPS are so 80's

Isn't that reminiscent of 1980s TLAM capability? I would hope the Russians have that type of chip capability.

Caecoid is a military genius!
