What Will Be The Impact Of The U.S. Midterms On U.S. Foreign Policy?

NBC News

WNU Editor: I can say with confidence that if there was any hope in some foreign capitals that the US midterm elections would signal a change in US foreign policy .... sighhhh .... those hopes were all but extinguished this morning.

Bottom line.

The US midterm elections results were not a repudiation of President Biden's foreign policies or decisions. I would even say that for a majority of Americans it was not even on their top 10 issues of concern.

The debacle and surrender in Afghanistan. The war in Ukraine. Growing tensions with China. Worsening tensions with North Korea. The fracturing of the global order into multi-polar blocs that are hostile to US interests. The weaponization of the US dollar's status as the world's global reserve currency. All of these issues were not raised, debated, or discussed.

What this means is that there will be no personnel changes or changes in policies when it comes to the Pentagon and national security issues, imposing financial and economic sanctions as a tool of US foreign policy, the war in Ukraine, and raising tensions against China.

My biggest worry is that there are probably some in the White House who will see the elections results as a green-light to double down on their policies.

What this means is even more support and involvement, maybe even direct involvement, in the war in Ukraine. The weaponization of the dollar. A more aggressive posture against China. And an even more aggressive approach towards countries like Saudi Arabia to not divert away from the American sphere of influence as they try their best to distance themselves away from Washington DC (i.e. Saudi Crown Prince Salman meeting Chinese President Xi next month to foster closer ties).

I do not see any lessening of tensions in 2023. In fact. I see it becoming far worse as the US does what it feels it must do to maintain its status as the world's global super-power.

"The debacle and surrender in Afghanistan."

Since July the polls have swung 8 points in Joe Biden's favor. He is still negative, but not as negative as before.

The situation has not gotten better, so why the improvement in polls. You can blame Trump, but my theory is that it is there was a concerted press effort.

Montages are regularly collected of Leftwing talking heads all using the same phrases.

Then there are the journalist pow wows.

"JournoList was a private Google Groups forum for discussing politics and the news media with 400 left-leaning journalists, academics and others. Ezra Klein created the online forum in February 2007 while blogging at ..."

Ezra Klein was mad he got caught. He got rid of his group, but he said or we know that he was going to start a new one with better security.

Liberal wingnut journalist are in the tank for the Democrat Party. The constant propaganda has an effect on polls and elections.

A journalism graduate might not know how a light switch or anything else works, but that does not matter. They are here to save us.

A carrot might work better.

Seriously, we could do better by sending Dennis Rodman to Saudi Arabia than Snake Sullivan. Yeah, I do not appreciate rodman wearing wedding dress, Was it goofing around, for shock value to get publicity? Don't know. I've read his biography and some news items about him and he has enough humility and earthiness that he is or is more of a straight shooter than Snake.
