Why Is Hillary Clinton, Former US President Obama, And Other Democrat Leaders Telling The EU To Limit Free Speech?

Authored by Jonathan Turley: EU Warns Musk Not to Restore Free Speech Protections After Calls from Clinton and Other Democratic Leaders

We have been discussing how Democratic leaders like Hillary Clinton called on foreign companies to pass censorship laws to prevent Elon Musk from restoring free speech protections on Twitter. The EU has responded aggressively to warn Musk not to allow greater free speech or face crippling fines and even potential criminal enforcement. After years of using censorship-by-surrogates in social media companies, Democratic leaders seem to have rediscovered good old-fashioned state censorship.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) declared Musk’s pledge to restore free speech values on social media as threatening Democracy itself.

She has promised that “there are going to be rules” to block such changes. She is not alone. Former President Obama has declared “regulation has to be part of the answer” to disinformation.

For her part, Hillary Clinton is looking to Europe to fill the vacuum and called upon her European counterparts to pass a massive censorship law to “bolster global democracy before it’s too late.”

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern recently repeated this call for global censorship at the United Nations to the applause of diplomats and media alike.

EU censors have assured Democratic leaders that they will not allow free speech to break out on Twitter regardless of the wishes of its owner and customers.

WNU Editor: I find it fascinating to see American politicians now coming out and expressing their fears on what will happen to Twitter since their "supporters" no longer control it. They clearly are not happy that they no longer have control and/or influence.

Sadly. The US is not alone. The EU is even worse .... We Do Not Live In A Democracy (October 30, 2022).

This is a longer term game than just Twitter. Liberals do not look to the constitution, laws passed in Congress or previous court cases for precedence.

They look to Europe and the rest of the world and demand or whine that we be like them. (Which is funny, because they are not paying attention to how some countries in Europe no longer recommend COVID shots for the under 50 crowd.) This is why Obama flapped his gums about how the American constitution is charter of negative rights and not positive rights. He is not the only greedy fool to say such things.

Anita Dun who was part of the Obama White House and is part of the Biden White house is an out and out Mao admirer.

Hillary and the other Democrats want to adopt anti-1st amendment speech codes. Twitter or no Twitter, if Democrats get European speech codes enacted in the US, they will control discourse in the US.

When HRC says that censorship is the only thing that can save democracy before it's too late, maybe that isn't a bunch of word salad. The word "democracy" as it's being used in recent parlance seems to be defined as "rule of the bankers".

We were talking about political speech not crazy speech like liberals talk.

Liberals want to ban everyone else's speech. Liberals are banning speech by Jews in Berkeley.

Democrat Rep Sherman complained about, but that is all he did. He complained. He knows better. If he did more than complain he knows that other Democrats would take a tally whacker to him.

“However, the adoption of this bylaw makes it so that many students, particularly Jewish students, will not be able to access student organizations that their tuition funds as a result of those students exercising their free speech rights. As a result, the funding and registered status that Berkeley provides to these student organizations must be made conditional on this discriminatory and antisemitic bylaw being revoked. At a time of rising antisemitism, we must stand firm against attempts to alienate and demonize the Jewish community. I urge Berkeley Law to stand with its Jewish students and cease funding to any student organizations that effectively bar Jewish speakers and students from participating,
