Defense News: Ukraine plans to spend $540 million on drones this year

WARSAW, Poland — Ukraine plans to spend about 20 billion hryvnia (U.S. $540 million) on new drones this year, according to the country’s defense minister.

The UAVs are meant to support the Ukrainian military as it continues to combat Russia’s invasion.

“In 2023, we are increasing the purchases of UAVs for the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” Oleksii Reznikov said in a Facebook post. “This is just the beginning. After all, this is not only about the needs of aerial reconnaissance.”

The official said that, owing to the forthcoming acquisitions, the Ukrainian military will strengthen its combat drone capacities. Ukraine will use other new UAVs for surveillance, to support to artillery units and in other missions, Reznikov added.

Another misleading headline from the press.

Where did a country who has no industry, loaded in debt and a broke treasury get 540 million dollars?

Let's correct the head line . Western countries, thru donations, grants and loans bought 540million dollars worth of drones.

Maybe Russia should stop digging its hole.

drones, f16's, tanks....i'm waiting on the coming Russian offensive to know whether any of that will happen. If it doesn't happen we know that Russia as a conventional power is a fraud, if it happens and fails we know the same. If it succeeds, I do not think Ukraine will need any of that high fluting power, but we might. I think we will know the answer in the next month.

If it is the later, we are going to pay a price for the leadership we have. In the US they have destroyed every institution and fail at every natural function and responsibility of government.

I think once Russia get the Ukraine situation under control, should that happen, we are going to be in an infrastructure war with Russia. It isn’t going to take much interference before our own citizens finish off the country from within through anarchy like civil unrest

That and the stuff before it is accurate.

Russia could succeed and still be fraudulent, but it would be a case of good enough and they would rest, reload, recuperate, retool, retrain, etc

Joe Biden , Millet and Austin should have the words "Penny Packets" attached to their names if Ukraine falls.

I expect a hot summer in the US and it does not matter what the actual temperature outside will be.

I think so because of the Memphis incident and the LA incident with the paraplegic. In the latter incident I think the police operated within the boundaries of the law if not the best judgment. The guy did have a huge knife and he could have thrown it and killed someone. That scenario would have been highly unlikely

I've seen a slight or average build 10 or 12 year olds throw a baseballs 40 to 50 miles an hour at a museum. Throwing a knife is different, but I wonder at the speed a muscular person could throw one. If you could throw a knife 40 to 90 miles an hour I could see a femoral or carotid artery being severed and a person bleeding out. That guy looked muscular, so how fast could he have thrown the knife?

Still the optics look bad and and people do not and do not want to understand how the mind works under stress. So I expect the LA shooting to be an issue into summer.

In the Memphis incident, 2 of the 5 cops were affirmative action hires. the standards were lowered so that Memphis could have a racially balanced à la Eric Holder. We would not want to have disparate impact in hiring by having standards. Much better to have race riots.

Communities have a bad view of people due to bad interactions. That is real and in some cases justified. But it works the other way too and that would be corrosive. There is not enough training to overcome all that corrosiveness IMO. IMO it means we need more police and we need to rotate them into desk jibs or other jobs to combat it.

In the meantime the police in Memphis will pull back and crime will increase.

I have seen videos where African Americans pull away from a stop, because they listen nonstop to the propaganda. My own kids, who are nonwhite and nonblack, were terrorized of being pulled over by police because of the propaganda of the "Hands up don't shoot" era.

these incident are stochastic in nature, so there will be 2 or 3 incidents between now and Memorial Day. There are groups that campaign on this for money and power. So I expect a hot summer.
