Protests And Riots Return To The Streets Of Paris

NBC: Tear gas flies in Paris as French 'Yellow Jacket' protesters clash with police

Police launched tear gas and water cannon at demonstrators angry at President Emmanuel Macron's economic reforms.

PARIS — Thousands of French police were deployed Saturday on Paris' famed Champs-Elysee Avenue to contain another round of demonstrations against gas tax hikes.

Police launched tear gas and water cannon as some of the so-called Yellow Jackets protesting President Emmanuel Macron's economic reforms tried to force their way across official lines.

Hundreds of demonstrators milled around at the top of the Champs-Elysee. Access to the major thoroughfare was closed to cars and monitored by police with identity checks and bag inspections.

Police barricaded entrances to the Arc de Triomphe and other landmarks.

The roadblocks didn't slow the protesters who set fires in the soaked streets and formed human barricades against officers.

WNU Editor: What is remarkable about these protests is that it does not have a leader or leaders. It appears to be grass-roots driven with social media being used to organize it. The protestors themselves are also mostly middle-aged, and I have been told are "middle-class". When you have this part of the population protesting against you .... the political leadership will lose power in the next cycle of elections. For French President Macron who has refused to change his high-tax policies to combat climate change .... that will be four years from now.

France could not take on Qadaffi with Italy, Germany and Britain assisting.

what does that tell you about France?

France could not intervene in Yugoslavia and that was 2 doors down. In a Serbia / France match up Serbia would have won.

Americans have barbeques. France has carbeques. There are so many carbeques that the gooberment threatened French broadcasters.

A person free falling could say look "no problemo." But we all know it is not the falling that kills you but the sudden stop. Kind of like the French budget and social political arc.

I have no kin, interests, involvement in France, but still I wish them well. They were an ally and helpful in 1776 and remained with us till 2018...I do not scoff, belittle, or dislike them and hope all works out for them.

4 more years under Macron, imagine that

The taxes were initiated by the chandelier swinging Hollande.

The taxes continue to ramp up under Macron, the fool. The French Medical system was fine without these taxes.

These taxes are carbon taxes to guide the supposedly idiot masses to salvation. These taxes have everything to do with AGW theory and central command and control.

Macon is stupid to not understand the stress strain relationship and will continue until fracture.

What do you expect f4om an idot you married his married high school teracher 25 years his senior?

I wonder how many of these new immigrants have joined the party

Maybe long time ago. Unfortenatly not true today... French leaders are wasting money for years and what president Macron calls 'economic reforms' is in reality 'increasing taxes'... The same solution like the other ones... Taxes was 30% in 1965, now it's 45% and all state services are getting down...

The french health care is marvelous "on paper". When you have to use it...it's horrible! Who has more than 50 years of experience of this "stuff"?
The only thing the French do well is ...taxes and hating America since the end of WWII.

France hasn't been helpful to us since at least Gulf War 2. In fact, it seems to me as though they actively sought to undermine us and any "help" they may have actually supplied in places like perhaps Afghanistan is tepid at best and certainly not worth tge downsides.

Any "help" supplied in 1776 was not based on the goodness of their hearts. It was based on percieved national interests. This is generally what nations do. It seems only the US is routinely expected to sacrifice it's national interests for other causes.

While we generally do not scoff at, belittle, or dislike the French, they routinely do this to us so the French should not be surprised if there is blowback. It appears to me that they view us as inferior forms of life.

I think this leads to the real problem they have with Trump. He insists that America be respected and treated as an equal. An uppity American who insists on us being respected and treated as an equal is something I don't think western Europeans are used to.

Wedge driver has failed to note that France won the Toyota wars in 1986. Similarly, France has done the heavy lifting in North Africa (Mali) in the last few years.

I have a Swiss friend who lives in France and uses their health system...She's not a big fan of the system, but it's much cheaper than Switzerland. I would say if her life depended on it she would go Swiss.

Every study by objective people indicates that France has the best public health service in the world...sure, a miss here and there, but compared to all other systems it consistently ranks tops.

Studies mean nothing unless you know their standards and assumptions.
