Why Is Africa Ignoring The Famine In The Horn Of Africa



Famine Crisis: Africa's Leaders Postpone Fundraising Conference By Two Weeks -- The Telegraph

Africa's leaders postponed for more than two weeks a conference to raise funds for the continent's famine victims, despite the first official estimates showing that almost 30,000 young children had died since the start of the crisis.

The African Union’s "pledging conference", to raise money for the 12 million people desperately needing food in the Horn of Africa, had been scheduled for next Tuesday.

It was intended to address the fact that despite the rest of the world having raised more than £600 million in aid, there is less than £350,000 in the African Union’s "special famine fund". This is despite the Union’s 54 countries having a combined GDP of more than £1.2 trillion.

My Comment: Bottom line .... the rest of Africa does not want to give any money to the famine relief in Somalia. The question that needs to be asked is why .... hmmmm .... I suspect that the answer is one that will make us wonder why are we shouldering this responsibility for aid when the rest of Africa clearly does not want to get involved and are in fact .... running away from it.
