IBTimes: South Korea Forms ‘Spartan 3000’ Unit To Attack North Korea In Case Of Contingency

The South Korean Marine Corps has formed a new mobile unit assigned to attack North Korea in case of contingency, a Seoul military official told Yonhap Sunday. The regiment, “Spartan 3000,” consists of 3,000 troops and was launched in the southeastern coastal city of Pohang, the report said.

The troops will be on standby to be deployed to all the parts of the Korean peninsula within a day and will be trained to destroy important North Korean military facilities. During other times the unit will be deployed to handle emergency situations and disasters, Yonhap reported.

Yes I do think this is a great idea. I'm generally pleased to see SK taking steps to bolster it's military capabilities. As we have common adversaries, it seems good for us if those whom we may need to fight alongside are stronger.

I would add a couple of things. SK needs to develop a nuclear weapons capability. Any assistance in this area that we could provide would very likely be very much appreciated. This is especially important in light of the fact that our current defense agreement with them needs to be renegotiated whereby we have fewer military personnel stationed there with the goal of eventually getting our people out entirely. Doing this should greatly enhance the military strength of SK and would very likely improve relations with this valuable friend. This would be a win/win for us all the way around.

This whole nuke threat from nth korea to ukraine and back to syria is a non starter.
The world has been more volitile and faced more serious threats in the past
Without incident.
Due to MAD doctrine l dont lose anysleep from a nuke attack f4om any state but l do fear a low yeild dirty bomb from individual terror groups.
