New York Times Reveals How U.S. Intelligence And The Justice Department Targeted And Spied On The Trump Campaign During The Election Campaign

New York Times: Code Name Crossfire Hurricane: The Secret Origins of the Trump Investigation

WASHINGTON — Within hours of opening an investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia in the summer of 2016, the F.B.I. dispatched a pair of agents to London on a mission so secretive that all but a handful of officials were kept in the dark.

Their assignment, which has not been previously reported, was to meet the Australian ambassador, who had evidence that one of Donald J. Trump’s advisers knew in advance about Russian election meddling. After tense deliberations between Washington and Canberra, top Australian officials broke with diplomatic protocol and allowed the ambassador, Alexander Downer, to sit for an F.B.I. interview to describe his meeting with the campaign adviser, George Papadopoulos.

The agents summarized their highly unusual interview and sent word to Washington on Aug. 2, 2016, two days after the investigation was opened. Their report helped provide the foundation for a case that, a year ago Thursday, became the special counsel investigation. But at the time, a small group of F.B.I. officials knew it by its code name: Crossfire Hurricane.

WNU Editor: The Justice Department's Inspector Generals' report is coming out soon .... these leaks to the New York Times is to provide cover for what is about to be exposed. What I find amazing about this story is the lack of outrage. That under a sitting President his FBI and intelligence services decided to spy on an opponent in the middle of a Presidential campaign and to plant a mole(s). For me .... this is the biggest scandal of my lifetime. I mean .... this is expected in Russia, and I know this is exactly how someone like Putin keeps power. But this is the U.S. that I am talking .... and all of this is now being exposed by the New York Times itself .... minus the outrage. But make no mistake about it. The New York Times knows what is happening .... that everything they invested in since the election on the President Trump narrative is now falling apart.

does outrage mean that the fbi, finding it seems, russian operatives working within a campaign are to ignore foreign involvement?

One year ago today, on May 17, 2017, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed former FBI director Robert Mueller as a special counsel, tasked with investigating attempts by Russians to interfere with the 2016 US presidential election. Today's Inside Trump will take a look at the current state of this investigation. As well, we'll try our best to untangle the massive, complex web of stories released yesterday regarding the various investigations into President Trump's personal attorney, Michael Cohen.

Where is the evidence that the FBI had that Russian operatives were in the Trump campaign?

.... FBI Agent Peter Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page were text messaging each other on this. Secret it was not as we learned 6 months ago when their text messages were made public over the recommendation that they should not by the Justice Department.

Their assignment, which has not been previously reported, was to meet the Australian ambassador, who had evidence that one of Donald J. .... the person who fed George Papadopoulos this information was Stefan Halper, a Cambridge professor with CIA, MI6 ties (and a beneficiary of a lot of Pentagon contracts) .... and it is after this that George Papadoupolos told Alexander Downer ..... who then told U.S. intelligence and justice officials. I am speculating now .... but common sense tells me that it looks like George Papadoupolos was set up, and the New York Times is all but admitting it .... while ignoring a few details .... like the role of Stephen Halper.
