AFP: Reforms loom, but not capitalism: Cuba president
Havana (AFP) - Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Tuesday said that while reforms loom in the Communist country, they would not be an embrace of capitalism.
Cuba is set to adopt constitutional reforms that will recognize private property and the market economy, to update its legal system.
Yet it does not want to abandon socialism, which in Cuban terms values health care and education but also frowns upon differences in personal wealth.
"In Cuba, there is not going to be, and there will not be, shifts to capitalism or concessions of any kind to those who would like to, in 1,000 different ways, move us away from historical ... policies of the revolution," Diaz-Canel, 58, said in an address.

WNU Editor: You heard it here first .... rhetoric aside, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel wants to copy the Chinese economic-political model where the Communist state rules but people and companies will be permitted to do business independent of the state.

"Reforms yes, capitalism not much." At least in regards to capitalism not much, this looks like the United States.
We got a very modest tax cut for individuals and the pundit class and much of the democrat party is hysterical in their opposition. How dare we let people keep more of their hard earned money!! How dare we throw business people and investors a small bone!! How dare we take anything away from the government!!
We don't exactly embrace capitalism except for perhaps the "crony" kind. This I think is why they don't want us to have tax cuts. Such actions that empower people could conceivably be a threat to the powers that be.
