Thomas L. Friedman, Star Tribune/New York Times: Biden should not debate Trump unless …
… the president agrees to release his tax returns and agrees to real-time fact-checking.
I worry about Joe Biden debating Donald Trump. He should do it only under two conditions. Otherwise, he’s giving Trump unfair advantages.
First, Biden should declare that he will take part in a debate only if Trump releases his tax returns for 2016 through 2018. Biden has already done so, and they are on his website. Trump must, too. No more gifting Trump something he can attack while hiding his own questionable finances.
And second, Biden should insist that a real-time fact-checking team approved by both candidates be hired by the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates — and that 10 minutes before the scheduled conclusion of the debate this team report on any misleading statements, phony numbers or outright lies either candidate had uttered. That way no one in that massive television audience can go away easily misled.
Debates always have ground rules. Why can’t telling the truth and equal transparency on taxes be conditions for this one?

WNU Editor: I expect more calls from Democrats to not have a Presidential debate between President Trump and former Vice-President Biden this year. For my own personal interest and because of this blog I do make the effort to listen/watch Joe Biden when he gives a podcast/interview/or town-hall. To say that they have been a disappointment and disconcerting is an understatement. He is not the debater who pulverized Paul Ryan in their Vice Presidential debate 8 years ago (see video here). And the idea that he can stand on a stage for two hours debating President Trump is hard to visualize.

Somehow I don't think this strategy is going to cut it.
They are scrambling, looking for excuses to avoid the debate. No surprise, President Trump will make short work of Slow Joe.
1. Biden has no chance if he debates, ie there's a very good chance he will lose even with all the might of the media and fake polling
2. For some reason the Democrats are so panicked of another Trump term. Usually because in three second term presidents tend to push their pet projects and agendas without fear of becoming a one term president and without having to deal and scheme and fundraise for reelection
3. I believe there's something hidden. Maybe a big crime, who knows, but the Democrats do everything but killing people opposed to their will. It cannot just be about political power. Maybe the Epstein pedo case or the spying on Trump or their too close ties to China. I don't know which or if all of these things but they strike me as willing to do - anything- including destroying the economy, taking your rights and causing a civil war. Whatever it is they try to stop trump from publishing, and/or punishing.
4. Having said that, I believe they might replace Biden, change rules, or worse.
This will be the craziest election cycle and they'll use force and intimidation.
My advice: fight back peacefully but do not give them and their media collaborators a chance to portray you/Republicans as the bad people. They already call racists and deplorables and every name in the book. Let them. Let the whole World see who they are.
Good luck and convert as many people as possible to Republicans before. This is for sure the most important election of our life time and likely a couple lives beyond. Something very sinister is going on.
