Bloomberg: India, China Foreign Ministers Discuss Russia's War in Ukraine, Border Crisis

(Bloomberg) -- India and China discussed Russia’s war in Ukraine and their own border standoff during an unannounced visit by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the first since tensions erupted between the neighbors two years ago.

Ties between New Delhi and Beijing haven’t returned to normal yet and will continue to be disturbed as long as troops remain deployed along their shared Himalayan border, India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar told reporters Friday. “I would describe our current situation as work in progress.”

The threat of bloody hostilities between the nuclear-armed neighbors, like the one witnessed in 2020, remains as military commanders from both sides have made only marginal progress in several meetings over the past two years. Soldiers remain deployed toe-to-toe in several locations as troop pullback has been limited to just three friction points along the border.

Joe Biden has agreed a landmark energy supply deal with the EU under which the US will increase transatlantic gas deliveries, in the hope of weakening the power the Kremlin wields thanks to its natural resources.

Speaking in Brussels after the deal was agreed on Friday, the US president said Vladimir Putin exploited Russia’s status as Europe’s main supplier of gas to “coerce and manipulate his neighbours” and that the proceeds of gas and oil sales “drive his war machine” during the invasion of Ukraine.

He said the partnership with the EU would strip Putin of that weapon by ending Europe’s dependence on Russian energy before the end of the decade.

The proposals also aim to cut Europe’s gas usage overall by focusing on energy efficiency and renewable energy, in order to meet climate goals.

Russia supplied about 155 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas to Europe last year and typically accounts for about 40% of the continent’s demand.

The EU has already said it hopes to cut Russian imports by two-thirds by the end of the year, by importing liquefied natural gas (LNG) from other countries, and bringing forward renewable projects and energy efficiency measures.

Under the deal with Biden, the US will assist in the short term by delivering increased shipments of LNG to Europe, with 15bcm added this year.

That implies 37bcm in deliveries, while Europe has committed to an eventual 50bcm a year in additional imports, as part of a plan to unhook itself from Russian gas supplies by the end of the decade.

Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, said: “This amount is replacing one-third already of the Russian gas going to Europe today. So we are right on track now to diversify away from Russian gas and towards our friends and partners, reliable and trustworthy suppliers.”

At the same time, the EU will try to keep climate goals on track by powering gas infrastructure with clean energy and reducing methane leaks that could worsen global heating.

A combination of energy efficiency savings in homes and wind and solar projects could shave 20bcm off European gas demand.

Biden said such a step was not only “the right thing to do from a moral standpoint” but was “going to put us on a stronger strategic footing”.

Asked how the US would increase its supply of LNG, given that producers are already running at full steam, a senior White House official said the plan would involve “swaps” with international partners, particularly in Asia, to free up gas during Europe’s winter.

The initiative will require Europe to build new terminals for importing LNG, with current infrastructure unable to cope with a significant rise in imports. Germany, Europe’s largest economy, has no LNG terminals but said on Friday that it aimed to end its reliance on Russian gas by 2024.

New pipelines – future-proofed so that they can be retrofitted to transport hydrogen – will also be needed.

“We aim to reduce this dependence on Russian fossil fuels and get rid of it,” said Von Der Leyen.

In high school, if you were the toughest kid in school but not a bully, you cannot expect the same treatment by peers, when you lose a fight to a bully. You cannot expect them to stand up to the bully.

Dweebs in the State Department, Pentagon, Congress and current WH critters expect India to back up the US, when the US cannot back up India. WTH!?

Madeleine Albright may she denied entry through the Pearly Gates advocated for a multipolar world.

Well ladies and gentlemen this is a multipolar world and India counted soldiers on all sides and decided to make nice with China despite having been given black eyes by China. This shocks official Washington, which tells you they are delusional, evil or stupid.

From India's perspective they've silently watched US politicians spend the last decade:

- Launching or exacerbating armed conflict in at least 6 countries.
- Unrestricted drone warfare with an embarrassingly high civilian death toll.
- The operation of Guantanamo Bay and black sites used for torture.
- The misuse of article 4 to crush Libya and turn it back from providing the highest standard of living in Africa into a failed state with open air slave markets.

They aren't interested in being talked down to, especially by a bunch of tv pundit faux liberals who now embrace the architects of the Iraqi invasion that slaughtered 7,186 civilians in just the first two months.

Once again, we must treat them as rational thinking equals or we will simply drive away another valuable partner into the sphere of our enemies.

Buried in the explosive news that Virginia Thomas aggressively advocated for Donald Trump’s coup attempt is a choice revelation: The spouse of Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas texted with White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows about Jesus Christ’s otherworldly role in delivering the election to Trump.

Meadows texted to Ginni Thomas that the “King of Kings” would ultimately “triumph” in the quest to overturn the election, which Meadows characterized as “a fight of good versus evil.” Thomas, a longtime conservative activist, replied: “Thank you!! Needed that!”

This sparked serious consternation on “Morning Joe,” with host Joe Scarborough delivering an emotional diatribe about it. “Think about the sickness of this,” Scarborough said Friday. “He summons the name of Jesus Christ for his help in overturning American democracy!”

The sentiment is understandable. But what this level of shock really indicates is this: We haven’t paid enough attention to the role of right-wing Christian nationalism in driving Trump’s effort to destroy our political order, and in the abandonment of democracy among some on the right more broadly.

In invoking Jesus’ support for Trump’s effort to overturn the election, Meadows — who handled evangelical outreach in the White House — was not merely making an offhand comment. He was speaking in a vein that has held wide currency among the Christian nationalist right throughout the Trump years, right through the insurrection attempt.

Sarah Posner, a scholar of the Christian right, has extensively documented the role of that movement in supporting and lending grass-roots energy to the effort to overturn the election procedurally, and even in fomenting the insurrection itself.

The rhetoric from the Christian right about Trump has long sounded very much like that exchange between Meadows and Thomas. In a piece tracing that rhetoric, Posner concludes that for many on the Christian right, Trump was “anointed” by God as “the fulfillment of a long-sought goal of restoring the United States as a Christian nation.”

In this narrative, Trump — despite his glaring and repugnant personal imperfections — became the vessel to carry out the struggle to defeat various godless and secularist infestations of the idealized Christian nation, from the woke to globalists to communists to the “deep state.”

This culminated with the effort to overturn the election and the lead-up to the Jan. 6 rally that morphed into the mob assault. As Posner documents, Christian-right activists developed a “bellicose Christian narrative in defense of Trump’s coup attempt,” investing it with biblical significance and casting it as “holy war against an illegitimate state.”

Madeleine Albright:

“A multipolar world of diversity and creativity among cultures, nations, and economies—is the world we believe we can build, one that will enrich our lives, and thrives on habits of peace and creative competition”

Be careful what you wish for. Liberals, who drool (LIBTARDS), wanted a multipolar world from
1991 until 2021. Well, the fools got it.

Madison Cawthorn, a Kremlin propagandist and alleged sex pest, is seen in this video posing with a giant cardboard check to fund infrastructure in the district he was elected to represent. While he was proudly holding up the check, someone in the room asked Cawthorne if he voted in favor of the bill.

"This particular appropriation we advocated for in the appropriations [inaudible], but the larger bill we voted against," he mumbles, probably wishing the questioner was a tree he could beat up.

"Did you vote for it, though?" the questioner repeated.

"As I just said, I think the larger bill we voted against," said Cawthorn, this time probably fantasizing about taking the questioner on one of his infamous "fun rides."

@ 4:41 Tell a sociologist. You may have heard about sociology. The field has been around for 200 years give or take 20 years.

Sociologists compare organizations to organisms. So concepts we no about organism we can apply to organizations.
