The Aircraft Carrier Fujian, also known as the Type-003, was launched in Shanghai, China, on June 17 2022. The aircraft carrier is comparable in size to the U.S. Navy's Nimitz and Ford classes.
* Fujian is named after province which is located opposite to democratic Taiwan, which China claims in dispute
* It is similar in size to US Navy's giant nuclear powered Nimitz class at displacement of 80,000 to 100,000 tons
* China's third aircraft carrier and the first domestically designed follows Soviet-style Liaoning and Shandong
China has launched its third aircraft carrier and the first one to have been designed domestically and built by the People's Republic.
The Fujian - named after a province which is located opposite to democratic Taiwan - is of a similar size to the US Navy's giant nuclear powered Nimitz class and is part of China's plan to modernise its fleet.
Launched in a Shanghai shipyard to great fanfare, it is more technically advanced then previous carriers.
