CBC: RCMP running short of officers to protect cabinet ministers from a growing number of threats
Ministers' teams don't always agree with the RCMP's assessments of danger levels
The RCMP's close protection unit is running short of the specialized officers it needs to protect elected officials, undermining its ability to respond to federal ministers' growing demands for security services, new figures show.
In the Ottawa region alone, 75 positions out of a total of 315 in the RCMP's protection unit are unstaffed — a vacancy rate of 24 per cent — according to data obtained by Radio-Canada. Similar vacancy rates afflict the RCMP's close protection units in other parts of the country, the RCMP said.
Several RCMP and government officials said the shortage of officers is complicating the force's efforts to protect the prime minister, the Governor General, Supreme Court justices, diplomats and foreign dignitaries.
"Even for the prime minister, they are short-staffed at the moment," said a government source.

Justin Castro is a dictator running his 3rd world country in the style of his daddy.
I counted 28 vehicles and 14 motorcycles...that's practically the entire RCMP, right?
That number will only increase as the dictator further consolidates power.
The thing is that this video was taken in the Papineau riding of Montreal, the riding that Trudeau represents.
If you need this type of protection in your stronghold, I can only imagine what the protection must be in ridings that are solidly against him.
I did security in Central London many moons ago at a NATO conference. The Canadian PM did a walkabout & spoke to the crowd. He didn't appear to have a PPO. Maggie Thatcher had 2 solo motor cycle coppers & a tag CAR. President Bush the 1st had a mega convoy with around 200 Clint Eastwood impersonaters, sailors & Marines. With Trudeau banning the sale of guns & such a big group of personal protection ifficers, bigger than Britain's PM, he must have really annoyed someone in Canada.
Remember, all protection is no guarantee of saftey... and never will be
