Pentagon Ponders Transition In Time Of War

Washington - The Pentagon is making a pointed effort to ensure that the transition to a new administration in January 2009 – the first time in 40 years that a handover of power will take place during wartime – goes smoothly, minimizing the risk of disruptions or attacks on military operations during the changeover.

My Comment: Did the Clinton Administration do the same thing in 2000? Or did the Bush Administration do the same thing in 1992? I am curious on what is the history of past transitions ... the disputes ... the replacement of personnel ... conflicts in policy. I am sure that there are a number of cool stories out there.

On a side note, the Christian Science Monitor' comments on Robert Gate's push for accountability in the Pentagon sums up why I like this Defense Secretary so much. If only our politicians, judges, and bureaucrats operate under the same code, the U.S. may end up getting somewhere.
