From The Telegraph:

Cambodia has appealed for the United Nations Security Council to diffuse an "imminent state of war" on its border with Thailand.

Since last week the two countries have ranged hundreds of troops and artillery against one another.

At the centre of the dispute is the 900-year-old ruined temple of Preah Vihear, spectacularly perched on a frontier hilltop, and 1.8 sq miles of disputed jungle at its base.

In a letter to the UN, the Cambodian premier Hun Sen, said: "Thai behaviour gravely threatens peace and stability in the region."

He also accused Thailand of "defying all principles of international law".

On the Thai side of the border children were today performing air-raid drills at school.

If the situation escalates shells will fly overhead from the artillery batteries newly installed in fields down the road.

My Comment: 1.8 sq. kilometers of land and one run down temple can bring two countries to war. I personally do not think that the two countries will go to war. The Thai Army is too strong and too well equipped to lose. But Cambodia has some legitimacy because of past U.N. resolutions giving the temple to them, this is their defense.

I personally believe that this difference will be resolved diplomatically over a period of time. But with so many soldiers in the area, the fear is justifiable that someone may get carried away and start a shooting war.

who are you to say this ?
the thai army isnt as strong as you think, haha, because thailand is more developed you think their army is stronger! and may i please remind you that thailand have never to war or any war in their country unlike cambodia.
cambodia might be poor and all but their army is strong and trained by china and north korea.
and that 1.8 km of land a temple can bring two countries two war when that temple is cambodia's pride, the only thing that cambodia has left after the khmer rouge is pride. If cambodia has to go war they will.
so please do not talk about something that you don't know.
