Mexican Cartels 'Threaten State'

In Tijuana, a Mexican federal policeman stands guard as others lift bundles of drugs through a shaft that reaches down to a sophisticated clandestine tunnel passing under the U.S.-Mexico border.

The head of Mexico's intelligence service has said that drug cartels are threatening the country's democratic institutions, including Congress.

Guillermo Valdes told the Financial Times newspaper that drug traffickers were trying to take over the power of the state.

Gangs have infiltrated police forces, justice departments and government bodies, he said.

My Comment: Colombia's drug war culture is now in Mexico. Poverty, corruption, law enforcement that is inadequate, judicial judges targeted for murder and intimidation ..... this is now happening on our borders. The unfortunate part of this conflict is that there is no light at the end of tunnel. Expect this violence to continue its upward trend.
