This Is Not Good For Moral

A wounded soldier stretches as he waits for President Bush to visit a physical therapy lab for wounded soldiers at the Center For The Intrepid at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007.

From the Politico:

SPIEGEL ONLINE has learned that Obama has cancelled a planned short visit to the Rammstein and Landstuhl US military bases in the southwest German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The visits were planned for Friday. "Barack Obama will not be coming to us," a spokesperson for the US military hospital in Landstuhl announced. "I don't know why." Shortly before the same spokeswoman had announced a planned visit by Obama.

The optics here are not good: Obama has time to get in a workout and give a speech to a crowd mostly comprised of Europeans, but can't be bothered to visit American troops wounded in action recovering at a military hospital.

My Comment: If you want to be commander in chief, this is a must. Visiting a hospital is never a pleasant experience .... I know because I visited my father everyday for seven years (a stroke paralyzed him).

As a commander in chief you must always visit your troops. If you want to be their commander in chief .... this same rule applies.

Our soldiers are not given much from our society as a whole. The pay is lousy. The hours are sometimes ridiculous, and the danger .... well .... we all have an idea about that.

In todays world U.S. and coalition forces are fighting a war that will probably go on for a very long time. Moral support, respect, appreciation .... every bit helps. Regardless of what others think, I strongly believe that both Senators Barack Obama and John McCain are decent and moral men who believe in what they are doing, are fanatically loyal and concerned for the American people, and have a vision that will bring America to a better place. They will make mistakes .... who doesn't .... but my only advice to them is always remember the troops.
