The Georgian/Russian War -- How Will This Effect The U.S. Presidential Election

The Georgia Crisis: What Would McCain,
Obama Do? -- Newsweek

A 3 a.m. Moment
Russia's retro behavior in Georgia provides an opportunity for American voters to ponder how their next president would react in a time of crisis

Up until the early 18th century, princes and kings resolved their differences by going to war. It was quite personal: the ruler would raise an army in his name and sally forth with the troops under his own banner. War in this era was fought as a kind of grand and ultimate sport, a tournament of killing. My Comment: Senator Obama has been "quiet" with the crisis that is happening in the Caucasus. I am not sure if that is a wise policy. I am also still unsure on what Sen. Obama policies are (talking about an international consensus to deal with this crisis is now a policy in my book). This strategy may play well in the eyes of the American electorate, but in the eyes of the Russian establishment, they will regard this as weakness and uncertainty.

Senator McCain's tough approach is only going to harden the Russian approach to the crisis. But his comments on no AAmerican military response is the right one.
