The 24 members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were killed in the Vavuniya and Mullaitivu districts on Wednesday, the ministry said, adding a government soldier also died in the clashes.
The fighting raged as the government hosted preparatory meetings for the eight-member South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit to start on Saturday.

My Comment: The Sri Lankan Army is now in the heartland of the Tamil community in the north of the country. The news coverage on this war is also now shifting to the political arena. India is pushing for a federated form of Government in Sri Lanka, and to assist the process they are arresting the arms merchants for the rebel Tiger Army. Pakistan is establishing defense agreements with the Sri Lankan Government.
