Future Russian nuclear-powered submarines will be equipped with Bulava nuclear missiles which can rip through 'any' missile defense barrier.

“A new state armaments program includes a plan to build a batch of eight nuclear submarines that would be armed with new Bulava strategic missiles,” deputy commander in chief of the Russian navy, Admiral Alexander Tatarinov was quoted by Interfax as saying.

Borei-class nuclear submarines, earmarked for carrying the missile will be operational in less than 10 years from now.

The move is part of Moscow's plans to fatten up its nuclear deterrent which, along with the submarines, would boast a space defense system by the end of the next 12 years.

"A guaranteed nuclear deterrent system for various military and political circumstances must be provided by 2020," President Dmitry Medvedev was quoted by Ria Novosti as saying last Friday.

My Comment: The Russian military is looking towards the future, and are investing into their nuclear deterrent likewise.
