Congo: Fresh Violence As Rebels And Militia Clash

Fresh fighting has broken out between rebels and a pro-government militia in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The bodies of civilians lay where they fell after the fighting, which started late on Tuesday and continued through the night.
Hundreds of people were again forced to flee their homes. Rebels from the so-called National Congress for the Defence of the People fought Mai Mai militia, losing and then retaking the town of Kiwanja, 45 miles north of the provincial capital, Goma.
Despite the fighting, their leader, Gen Laurent Nkunda, has said that he is sticking to a week-old ceasefire with the national army. The United Nations said that its troops would open fire on Gen Nkunda's men, or on any other militia, if they tried to capture Goma.

My Comment: 5 million have died in the past two decades in this war .... a war that shows no sign of ending.
