Congo War News Updates -- November 5, 2008


GOMA, DR Congo (AFP) – Laurent Nkunda's rebel forces and pro-government milita clashed for the second day running Wednesday in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, sources on both sides said.

"Fighting resumed at 4:00 am (0200 GMT) and is going on near the general hospital of the town of Rutshuru," 75 kilometres (45 miles) from Goma, Didier Bitaki, the spokesman for the Mai Mai militia, told AFP.

Bertrand Bisimwa, spokesman for Laurent Nkunda's National Congress for the Defence of the People (CNDP) spoke of an ongoing operation around Kiwanja, five kilometres north of Rutshuru, the scene of fighting on Tuesday.
