Envoys Missing In Murky World Of Niger's Rebels

Canadian diplomats Robert Fowler and Louis Guay were abducted, a rebel website said, to send Canada 'a strong signal' over its support of Niger government

NIAMEY, Niger—Missing Canadian diplomat Robert Fowler appears to have been plunged into a bitter, long-standing struggle involving the government of Niger, nomadic rebel groups and uranium mining companies.

United Nations authorities were examining information published on a website of the Front des Forces de Redressement, which yesterday claimed responsibility for abducting Fowler, then denied it, while trying to shift blame to another group, a spokesperson for UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said.

My Comment: There appears more to this story than what is told. Unfortunately, Niger is one of those countries where information is very hard to come by.
