Her job isn't easy at the best of times and now she's got the shiner to prove it.

What White House Press Secretary Dana Perino refers to as her 'shoe-venir' is the result of security guards leaping on the man who threw his size 10s at President Bush at the weekend.

Ms Perino was in the room when Iraqi reporter Muntadhar al-Zaidi pulled off his shoes and flung them at Mr Bush in a gesture of contempt that has seen him hailed as a hero in the Arab world - and on the receiving end of a beating.

As Bush ducked, security guards surged towards the reporter knocking a microphone boom into the face of Ms Perino - hence the shiner.
