The recent quote we posted on by the Seventh Fleet commander that “the purpose of the Navy is not to fight” comes at an interesting time with saber rattling from North Korea, rampant piracy in the Indian Ocean, and news that China is deploying a new carrier killing anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM). Obviously someone is trying to fight us, and I hope our naval leaders have no plans to sit on the sidelines, come what may. We think it likely that some of our sailors still feel as the great John Paul Jones, who only sought “a fast ship…to go in harm’s way”.

Let's hope the commander meant that the purpose of the Navy is the gathering of information, preserving of peace and governing of waterways peacefully whenever it's possible - - and not to sit idly by as others with malicious intent against the US Sailors and country as a whole prepare and execute their attack.
