Obama Seeks To Boost CIA Morale

From The BBC:

US President Barack Obama is to visit the CIA, in a bid to reassure staff stung by the release of memos detailing harsh interrogation techniques.

The visit follows comments by a former CIA chief who said the memos would limit its ability to pursue terrorists.

Mr Obama released the memos last week but said CIA staff would not be prosecuted for the methods, which critics say are torture.

My Comment: President Obama obviously knows that there is a problem .... otherwise he would not make the effort to make arrangements to show up at Langley.

The memos themselves are not the issue .... much of its details were already known before they were released .... the issue is the legal implications for CIA officers in what they do. I do not care who you are ..... but no one will want to work in CIA counter terrorism or the Al Qaeda desk if they also know that Congress and the media will just pillory them for the work they do. Work that will probably end up with them being in front of a judge or sitting in front of Congress .... and getting stuck with high legal fees and expenses while doing it.

Even though Presdient Obama says no one is going to be legally charged .... I hear from the grapevine that no one believes him.

Sigh ..... expect a slow bleed of CIA officers in the short and medium term .... and for the important posts in the CIA .... consider them to now be neutered and ineffective.
