WASHINGTON — The Obama administration and its European allies are preparing proposals that would shift strategy toward Iran by dropping a longstanding American insistence that Tehran rapidly shut down nuclear facilities during the early phases of negotiations over its atomic program, according to officials involved in the discussions.
The proposals, exchanged in confidential strategy sessions with European allies, would press Tehran to open up its nuclear program gradually to wide-ranging inspection. But the proposals would also allow Iran to continue enriching uranium for some period during the talks, a sharp break in the approach taken by the Bush administration, which had demanded that Iran halt its enrichment activities.

My Comment: If these reports are true .... the Iranians will perceive that they have won the situation, the Europeans and the Americans will feel that they are making progress (but they are not), and the Israelis are going to be convinced that the U.S. will cave in, and permit the Iranians to go forward on their nuclear program.
Expect (now) an Israeli response against Iran sooner .... rather than later.

How do you assume Israel will respond? It seems to me that the US will not back up Israel as much as in the past under this new administration. So what could possibly Israel do at this point? Just curious.

Good question from Toronto Realtor.
I always examine the history of players in any conflict. In regards to Israel ... they have a clear paper trail.
The bombing of Iraq's nuclear plant 25 years ago. The destruction of Syria's nuclear test plant/project last year. The Hamas - Israel war. The destruction of an Iranian attempt to rearm Hamas by destroying their weapons convoy in the Sudan in January.
The 1967 6 day war was probably the biggest attempt by Israel to stop an enemy that it perceived was a threat to them. When you compare the 1967 war to a possible strike against Iran .... you will come to the same conclusion that I did .... Israel is prepared to go to war if it feels its survival was at stake .... and Iran is small potatoes when compared to what the situation was like in 1967.
When I examine the current situation and history of what israel will do .... the question is not if .... but when Israel will strike.
