US Risks Fanning Violence As It Opens Gates Of Iraqi Detention Camps

Dressed in a banana-yellow jumpsuit, the man sobbed uncontrollably as he clutched his young son and daughter under the stern gaze of a US detention guard.

“Don't worry, soon they will release me and I will spend the rest of my life close to you,” the Iraqi, 32, told his wife, Huda, 24, and their two children. He spoke from behind a painted line on the ground of the visiting section at Camp Cropper, an intimidating US detention centre near Baghdad airport.
