Panetta: Location of All Pakistan's Nukes Not Known

Panetta spoke days after the top U.S. military officer told Congress there is evidence Pakistan is adding to its nuclear weapons systems and warheads.

LOS ANGELES -- CIA Director Leon Panetta said Monday the United States does not know the location of all of Pakistan's nuclear weapons but is confident the country has them secure.

The CIA director was asked about Pakistan's nuclear program at a forum organized by the Pacific Council on International Policy.

My Comment: Not a comforting thought .... but not surprising. The Pakistani military and intelligence services do not trust anyone, with the Indian military being on top of the list. If I was the man responsible for protecting Pakistan's nuclear arsenal, I would make sure that all of my nuclear weapons would never be vulnerable to a surprise attack. That would mean constantly moving them around .... having many soldiers protecting them .... and always being prepared for the worse.

In such an atmosphere .... even if the CIA had men directly in the chain of command, it would be impossible for them to know where every nuke was hidden. Leon Panetta is being honest.
