The US Army’s Most Fruitful Innovation

This is applied network-centric warfare at its best: The US Army has made first experiences with Apple iPods and iPhones in combat operations. And by now it seems to be quite beneficial as soldiers were provided with a comprehensive and helpful tool while the government saves hard cash. First development efforts of the Army have been initiated to create tailored programmes in order to combine the iPod’s commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) efficiency with the security and application requirements of the Armed Forces. Since, pictures of iPods mounted to assault rifles, attached to helmets or even saving lives (see picture above) have become familiar images on the internet.

My Comment: And this is just the beginning. Technology has always changed the battlefield .... but never at the pace which is occurring now.
