20 Soldiers Killed In Darfur Fighting: Sudan Army -- Yahoo News/AFP
KHARTOUM (AFP) – Twenty Sudanese soldiers were killed in fierce fighting in the western region of Darfur near the border with Chad, an army spokesman said on Monday, adding that 43 rebels had also died.
"Sudanese forces have counted 20 martyrs and 31 injured" within their ranks, army spokesman Othman al-Aghbash said in a statement carried by the Sudanese Media Centre, which is close to the intelligence services.
He also said 43 rebels from the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) had been killed and 54 wounded in Sunday's clashes.
JEM could not immediately be reached for comment.
