WASHINGTON – Just over half of Americans say torture is at least sometimes justified to thwart terrorist attacks and are evenly divided over whether to close the Guantanamo Bay prison, according to a poll that underscores the challenges President Barack Obama faces in selling his terror-fighting policies.

Even so, the latest Associated Press-GfK survey also shows that Obama enjoys broad confidence that he can effectively handle terrorism in an era when many people say they still fear becoming a victim of it and when a swath of the public shares the views of Obama's Republican predecessor, George W. My Comment: I have been trying to find the methodology used by AP in making their poll .... with no luck. In the past AP has always slanted their polling heavily in favor of Democrats and urban voters, and they used low sampling numbers. USA TODAY/Gallup have a poll on the same topic, and their results completely contradicts the AP results. Those results are here.

Which is the more accurate poll result? I will have to credit USA Today/Gallop as probably being the more accurate result .... Congress is certainly behaving with the belief that the USA Today/Gallop poll is correct.
