Zelaya To Discuss Honduras Crisis With Clinton -- Yahoo News/AP
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Diplomatic efforts to restore Manuel Zelaya to Honduras' presidency shifted back to Washington on Tuesday, as supporters of the ousted leader threatened to escalate protests across the poor Central American nation.
Zelaya was scheduled to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton while backers of isolated interim President Roberto Micheletti came to make their case to journalists and opinion-makers in Washington.
Zelaya said he hopes to ensure U.S. support for diplomatic efforts to restore him to power. The visit comes a day after his attempt to fly home was blocked by the interim government that ousted him in a coup.
Micheletti, meanwhile, appeared to open some space for a settlement.
