My Comment: If the economy continues to tank (or stay stagnant) .... and the war in Afghanistan continues to bring back body bags to the U.S. .... Congress will be looking for a cause to have the main stream media and public attention to be focused elsewhere.
Investigations and probes on the CIA will be the perfect recipe. I say this because there is a historical precedent for it. In the mid 1970s a recession/inflation period (that was far worse than what we are experiencing now) was the state of affairs in the U.S. In this atmosphere of negative publicity (for Congress), the Church Committee was convened to look into CIA abuses and assassination policies.
This riveted the media and the public's attention for over a year, and helped many in Congress to win in 1976.
I expect history to repeat itself again.
