Was it an oil deal? Convicted Lockerbie bomber Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi flew home from a Scottish prison on Thursday, freed by the Scottish government on compassionate grounds because doctors say Megrahi's cancer will kill him within three months. But was that the real reason? Could Britain have traded Megrahi in return for lucrative deals with the energy-rich North African nation?

COMMENTARY: WNU EDITOR
The Scots (and Brits) have lost their way. Releasing a man who was convicted of mass murder so that he can live the rest of his life in luxury in Libya defies the imagination.
There is no compassion in this release, but contempt to those who follow the rule of law. The families who lost loved ones were not listened to by the Scottish minister who released this murderer, no compassion was directed their way .... and none has been to this day.
This political stunt is going to shame the Scottish Government (and its people) for years to come .... and justifiably so. The Scots .... whether at home or traveling abroad .... will carry the stigma of being the country that made the most absurd expression of compassion in the history of the world.

Are our athletics really safe going to this country that coddles terrorists?
It seems there were some under the table deals going on with the release.
