CIA Director Leon Panetta told Congress about a counterterrorism assassination program run by the agency before knowing all the facts, a renowned writer on intelligence says.
Joseph Finder, an author of several realistic, best-selling espionage novels and thrillers that seem to be drawn from his close associations with U.S. intelligence officials, wrote to little notice Tuesday that the so-called secret assassination "program wasn't much more than a PowerPoint presentation, a task force and a collection of schemes."
The CIA denied Finder's conclusions.

My Comment: When the story first broke out a few months ago, critics were quick to point out (this blog included) that this was nothing new .... and in fact was a program that never came to fruition. I personally believed that this news was made public to give cover to Speaker Nancy Pelosi's accusations at the time that the CIA had lied to her in previous briefings .... an accusation that (of course) was never followed up by Congress or the White house.
So .... was CIA Director Panetta wrong on the "assassination" story .... it appears that many former CIA officials believe the answer is yes.
