Polls Open For Landmark Afghan Elections -- AFP

KABUL — Polling stations opened at 7:00 am (0230 GMT) on Thursday for the second ever presidential elections in Afghanistan, held under tight security amid Taliban threats to disrupt voting.

Around 17 million Afghans are registered for the vote -- the third elections held since the extremist Taliban regime was ousted in a US-led invasion in late 2001.
