Gates Lashes Out At Critics Of U.S. Missile Plan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Saturday lashed out at critics of a new missile defense plan for Europe and insisted it was not a concession to Russia, as some charge.

Gates, a Republican who served in senior positions under former President George H.W. Bush and his son, former President George W. Bush, wrote in an opinion article for the New York Times that the criticism of the plan is misguided.

My Comment: This is just the start. Breaking a defense/security agreement with some of our closest European allies will have consequences and repercussions for a very long time. It is going to take years to repair this diplomatic fiasco .... a fiasco that could have been avoided if smart diplomacy and consultation was done instead of making a unilateral and independent decision.
