Has The Whitehouse.gov Web Site Been Purged Of All 9/11 Links?
While researching material to do a 9/11 post, I went back to a post that I did last year.
All the links were working .... except one.
It appears that all Whitehouse.gov links that relate to 9/11 have been erased.
I then went directly to the Whitehouse.gov page itself, and put into the search engine the query .... 9/11.
When President Bush was in the White House, I always got an avalanche of material relating to 9/11. His speech to the nation on September 11, 2001. His speech to the Joint Session of Congress on September 20, 2001. etc. There was never a shortage of information or useful links.
This time around, I got nothing but excerpts of speeches from President Obama and Vice President Biden that only made references to 9/11.
It is right now 6:00 AM EST and there is nothing on the Whitehouse.gov page that recognizes or commemorates what happened on September 11, 2001. Nothing.
In some cases, links to previous Whitehouse.gov pages that were the web addresses for specific events during and after 9/11 have now been eliminated and/or redirected to President Obama's own web page.
For example, flickr has a picture of President Bush in the White House on the evening of September 11, 2001 that was taken during his address to the nation. The flickr link is here.
If you click at the Whitehouse.gov link at the bottom of the flickr page (the link is http://www.whitehouse.gov/president/september11/07.html ), instead of getting the link to the picture of President Bush, you now get President Obama's own White House Page.
On a day that touched all Americans, the Whitehouse.gov web page should have a specific section that is dedicated to providing links and information on what had happened on that fateful day. It would serve to both educate and to provide reference material to people who wish to learn more about what had happened on that fateful day.
I doubt that most Americans would disagree with such a move.
Update: On 9/11, day of mourning becomes day of service -- Yahoo News/AP
Update 7:40 EST: The Whitehouse.gov page now has pictures of the Pentagon 9/11 memorial, and an announcement that President Obama will be speaking at the Pentagon later in the day.
