Unable to Bridge Gaps, Officials Say Mideast Talks May Stall -- New York Times

JERUSALEM — American diplomats were unable on Friday to bridge gaps between Israel and the Palestinians on restarting peace talks, meaning that while their leaders will likely meet with President Obama next week at the United Nations General Assembly, they will not announce a renewal of negotiations, officials on all sides said.

“They can have a photo opportunity, but they can’t announce the resumption of talks,” Saeb Erekat, chief Palestinian negotiator, said by telephone after two meetings in the West Bank between the American envoy, George J. Mitchell, and President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority. “They will try again next month.”

My Comment: I cannot say that I am surprised. Expect President Obama putting the screws on israel in teh next few weeks.
