North And South Sudan Are Engaged In Arms Race, Group Says -- Bloomberg
Oct. 2 (Bloomberg) -- North and south Sudan are engaged in an arms race four years after a peace agreement that ended a two-decade civil war, the Geneva-based Small Arms Survey said.
Northern Sudan’s army has bought heavy and light weapons from Russia, Belarus, China and Iran, according to the study released yesterday, while Ukraine was the source of acquisitions by the army of Southern Sudan, a semi-autonomous region since the 2005 accord. The weapons are also reaching rebel groups in the western region of Darfur and militias in Southern Sudan.
