Al Qaeda's Diminished Role Stirs Afghan Debate -- FOX News

Hunted by U.S. drones, beset by money problems and finding it tougher to lure young Arabs to the bleak mountains of Pakistan, Al Qaeda is seeing its role shrink there and in Afghanistan

Since first invading Afghanistan nearly a decade ago, America set one primary goal: Eliminate Al Qaeda's safe haven.

Update #1:
Al-Qaida showing smaller presence in Afghanistan -- AP

Update #2: Commentary: Al Qaeda's support is fading -- CNN

My Comment: For the past few years I have been hearing from the media and from a number of politicians .... President Obama included .... that U.S. policy, Guantanamo, torture, etc .... all of this was increasing support for Al Qaeda and their affiliates. Now .... we are hearing the opposite, and that Al Qaeda is (in fact) fading away.

This is why I am always piling scorn on the media, and why they cannot be trusted on reporting on the war in Afghanistan and on the war against terrorism. Their political agenda is more important than reporting the news.

2nd Comment: Trends on the decline of Al Qaeda has been noted for the past few years .... so please do not send me emails that this is all due to President Obama .... it is not. The credit belongs to the CIA, special ops, and the men and women who work in counter-terrorism.

Nah, I would the credit to AQ themselves. They were able to launch one big one... and then what? Their own brutality and foolishness has repelled the masses away from their cause. As one smart man has noted, we don't need to worry about AQ too much anymore. What brings down empires is the accidental guerrilla.
