A Japan - Sino Alliance?

China And Japan Begin Talks On Building Alliance -- The Telegraph

Japan and China have been sworn enemies since the Emperor Meiji's military routed the Chinese forces more than a century ago.

But in a move that will send shock waves around the world, the two countries have begun talks on forging a new union that could make them the most powerful force in the world.

Tokyo and Beijing are discussing plans to create an "East Asian Community," similar to the European Union, that would improve economic and political relationships in the region.

My Comment: They have a long way to go before this becomes a reality. Chinese bitterness and hostility towards Japan has been bred in the culture for decades .... and it will take just as long to get rid of this sentiment. As for the Japanese, their sense of nationalism and "superiority" has also been a part of their culture for the better part of the last century, expect another century to get rid of that sentiment.

On a side note, when I lived in China in the 1980s, I always enjoyed "needling" my Chinese hosts and their Japanese cars. Every time I did that .... the crestfallen look that they always gave me was priceless.
