Pakistan Battles Militants as Leaders Prepare to Meet -- Bloomberg
Oct. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Taliban guerrillas attacked security posts in northwest Pakistan as the army pressed its nine-day-old offensive against the militant stronghold in South Waziristan.
The Taliban counterattacks came as President Asif Ali Zardari prepared to meet his main political rival, ahead of a visit by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Zardari wants a united front with former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over the army offensive and may ask him to tone down criticism of the terms for a new U.S. aid package.
