U.S. Not Interested In Talking Missile Defense With Non-Nato Countries


Non-NATO States Not Expected to Participate in U.S. Missile Shield -- Global Security Newswire

The United States is not talking with non-NATO nations about participating in a European missile shield, nor does it have plans to in the future, said a top U.S. defense official today (see GSN, Oct. 19).

"We are not consulting with any non-NATO countries and we do not envisage the placement of elements of our new architecture on the territory of non-NATO member states," Assistant Defense Secretary Alexander Vershbow said during a trip to Georgia, Reuters reported.

My Comment: I guess this cancels out any plans to talk with the Ukraine about installing radar installations on their soil. This is an olive branch from the U.S. to the Russians .... but they are not paying any attention.
