Barack Obama needs a quick victory in Afghanistan if he is to stay in the White House, says Con Coughlin.


President Obama says that when he finally announces his new strategy for Afghanistan next week, it will reflect his determination “to finish the job”. But if he fails to deliver on his promise to end a war that is neither popular at home nor abroad, it could easily finish his presidency.
