Kabul Hunkers Down As Hamid Karzai Prepares For New Term As Afghanistan's President -- L.A. Times

Fearing violence, residents of the capital are staying off the streets. The mood is glum, fueled by disappointment in the government.

Reporting from Kabul, Afghanistan - Mahmood Barakzai still remembers the rush of pride and optimism he felt when Hamid Karzai was sworn in for his first term as Afghanistan's president. This time around, the Kabul shopkeeper wasn't even going to bother switching on the television.
