Name Change For UAV Drones Approved. To Now Be Called Remote Piloted Aircraft (RPA)

A Drone By Any Other Name… -- Reuters

The drone that was formerly known as the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has a new name — the Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA).

Air Force Secretary Michael Donley said Air Force leadership discussed it and made a commitment to use the new term, although it does take some getting used to. “The more we use it, the more comfortable we get with it,” he said in an interview at a Reuters Aerospace and Defense Summit. What do you mean by your comment: "The name change does not impress me"? Our son pilots predators, but not by his choosing. He is a graduate of the Air Force Academany and Undergraduate Pilot Training (T-38's) after which he was ordered to pilot drones. He would rather be flying a "real" aircraft, but is passionate about the mission, because it's about saving the lives of the good guys. The remotely piloted tag speaks volumes more in terms of morale than the lame "unmanned" label, so be impressed, Sir, be very impressed for the sake of those men and women who actually are in the fight.

Thank you Bford for your comment.

The technology and the men and women who operate it is what impresses me. To me (and it is just my opinion), a name is just a name.

Long time followers of this blog know that I have been interested in this tech since 2000, and I support 100%.

As for you son, congratulations for his service .... we need more people like him.
