Quake-Stunned Haitians Pile Bodies By fallen Homes -- Yahoo News/AP
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – Haitians piled bodies along the devastated streets of their capital Wednesday after the strongest earthquake hit the poor Caribbean nation in more than 200 years crushed thousands of structures, from schools and shacks to the National Palace and the U.N. peacekeeping headquarters. Untold numbers were still trapped.
The devastation was so complete that it seemed likely the death toll from Tuesday afternoon's magnitude-7.0 quake would run into the thousands. France's foreign minister said the head of the U.N. peacekeeping mission was apparently among the dead.

My Comment: Living in Montreal has exposed me to the large Haitian community that lives here. One of my business partners is from Haiti, and in the past he has helped me in a number of computer related projects .... both here and in Haiti.
This earthquake has completely destroyed the capital city and the outlining regions. My associate is in shock with what has happened, and he has lost all contact with his family and business associates in the capital .... even though they have generators and satellite communications he has received no word on what has happened.
On days like this .... in the comfort of our homes and places where we work .... we should all take a moment to realize how lucky we are, and on how fragile life really is in this modern day world.
Update: We will have an update on the disaster in Haiti at 21:00 EST.

What a measurable life now there! I would like to apply to the people who have a ability to help them please help. Who have no ability to help at least pray for them.
Although it will be a challenge to get donations, medical care, and food to Haiti due to a blockage of debris and rubble on the roadways to and from the airport, I ask that we press on. There is nothing God cannot do if we believe. Peace and love go to my Haitian people both here in the states and abroad in Haiti, especially during this devastating condition estimated to have affected close to 3 million people in Port-Au-Prince (Petionville) and around its bordering cities (Jacmel and Carrefour). The water is contaminated, and the scent of dead bodies permeates environment, the remains causing widespread bacteria (parasites) and an infestation of diseases such as Malaria. The aftermath work outweighs the amount of relief workers as thousands of native wait on extremely LONG lines for help or take the dangerous journey to seek help and support in hospitals in Cap Haitien, and other neighboring cities.
But be of good courage and keep the faith. God WILL provide a way in doing so not only through the support of philanthropists and humanitarians around the world, but also by the spiritual strength and emotional support by our own people and by people who aren’t afraid to love across races and cultures despite socioeconomic statuses because love is the only thing that remains after all materialistic things perish. This catastrophe only highlights the need to assist Haiti continuously. Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere with 90% of the country living in poverty and 30% of those in abject poverty. Adult literacy is at 56% with approximately 90% of the school being private---unaffordable to most as unemployment is high and minimum wage at $1.70. It is unfortunate that it takes this natural disaster to bring the conditions of this country to light when this has been ongoing for decades. But right now, we can focus on the primary: to help save lives.
A big thank you to President Obama and his administration for their immediately action and dedication to relief efforts as he has pledge to offer $100MM. His exclaims the importance to assist during this hour of need. Also a special thanks to Dr. Stephen Carryl and Dr. Jean Claude Compas from Brooklyn who are organizing donations for relief in Haiti and are arranging to travel there to medically assist the country. Notwithstanding, Mayor Bloomberg, Councilman Mathieu Eugene, and Elsie St. Louis Accilien (from Haitian Americans United for Progress) are being very resourceful in rallying up NYC of all ethnicties to help. Last, I would like to thank all the countries (Dominican Republic, Germany, China, France, Mexico, etc.) and celebrities who are committed to the cuase!
