Marines, Afghan Troops Seek To Secure Their Hold On Marja -- L.A. Times

On the offensive's second full day of fighting, Afghan officials say 27 insurgents have been killed. The town will be a crucial test case of Afghans' ability to maintain order once the Taliban are driven away.

Reporting from outside Marja and Kabul, Afghanistan — Insurgent holdouts in the town of Marja on Sunday aimed sporadic but sometimes intense fire at U.S. Marines and Afghan troops seeking to solidify their hold on the southern Afghan town.
